THOMAS TOUR DE FLANDERS-DAY 7

09/09/2015

The last riding day in Belgium. What a place to ride. The Four had their last breakfast and split up to finish their vacations with one pair going to Rome and the Mediterranean with the other pair off to Amsterdam.

Today the ride was rigorous and devoted to Classics riding. The highlights were the Koppenburg, Oude De Kwaremont, Paterberg, Taienburg and the Muur de Geraardsbergen. All are prolonged steep cobble and Lenore did great. The last time the Muur was wet so Hotair  and Diesel struggled. Today was perfect and both riders negotiated this storied climb.  Hotair is sure lucky to have such an adventurous spouse! Indeed today was the best day to ride since arrival. Tomorrow will be the best day, but we will be on the train.

We needed to return the bikes so there was some time pressure. The Bosberg climb which is on the agenda will remain a future goal for Hotair. Lenore did well and gets a deserved rest.

The week in Belgium ends with the bikes picked up, shopping for chocolate and a visit to the Ronde shop. A couple of neat finds were located there.  The Grand church of Oudenaarde was open and as expected ornate. Also, Hotair  managed to see the Town Hall interior as a small wedding was just finishing up. It feels like a secret club.

Dinner  in town and some Carnival ambiance finish off the week. Amsterdam awaits by train tomorrow.
